Job Description
Choir Director
First Congregational United Church of Christ
Platteville, Wisconsin

The choir director will direct rehearsal and performance of the church choir for a minimum of 30 Sundays during the calendar year. The exact schedule will be determined jointly by the director and the choir members. It is understood that one Sunday worship service per year will be designated “Music Sunday” and will feature a full program of choral and solo music.

The choir director will also direct or coordinate rehearsal and performance for the Easter and Christmas Eve service as well as up to two additional special services per year as determined in consultation with the pastor.

The choir director will coordinate special music for at least ½ of those Sundays when the choir is not singing. A list of people willing to provide special music will be provided to the choir director.

The choir director is responsible for choosing anthems for the choir, working with the pastor, organist and Church Life Ministry to coordinate with the church year and worship themes.

The director will provide the church office with the name and composer of the Sunday anthem by Wednesday of the preceding week so that the information may be printed in the worship bulletin.

The director will be present at all choir rehearsals and church services at which the choir is singing.

The director is an ex officio member of the Church Life Ministry and is expected to attend the ministry’s regularly scheduled meetings.

The choir director will receive payment in the amount of $70 per worship service at which the choir sings.* The director may also be reimbursed $35.00 each for two rehearsals per year outside of the regular Sunday morning rehearsal if necessary.

*Although the choir director will make every attempt to provide an anthem on scheduled Sundays, it is understood that the director will be reimbursed in the event that there are not enough choir members available to sing.
